Went to a housewarming for one of my friends from college last night – yay! It was good to get out on a Saturday night for a change. I left the bf at home since he had to “study” for an exam (although I think the lure of Grand Theft Auto might have been too much for him lol. On Friday night his study consisted of muting the movie TROY on the ads haha) but he dropped me off so I could have a couple of drinks if I wanted to. My friend S from college is British so her party was an eclectic mix of all different nationalities – for once, Aussies were out numbered! It was so cool to hear all the different accents: Scots, Irish, South African, Cockney, and American- I think there was a Kiwi thrown in for good measure in there somewhere too.
For the first half of the night I sat in the corner with the other college people before deciding it was time to get out of my comfort zone and start to mingle with some of the other guests. This is a pretty big thing for me, because usually I’m really shy and will only talk to people I know. But last night I decided to just get out there (sans any alcohol by the way! Extra brave!).
I talked to an American from who kept quizzing me on Macro photography because he has a bug fetish (ew!), I got the life story of a British guy from Yorkshire, including some info about his drug smuggling (!!) apprentices. I watched an Irishman who was married to an Indian lady sing TV jingles at the top of his lungs for about an hour (hilarious although I kept getting flash backs to LOTR and I’m not really sure why??), saw an aussie elbow the ex-pats out of the way of the bbq so he could ‘show them poms how’s its done’ and had a South African try to sell me a suspect looking sausage (hmm, no thanks, I’m a vegetarian!).
Halfway through the night, a couple more of the college people showed up including one of the guys R who tee-d up a night a place in the valley for me and a couple of the other guys to go take some photos of the bands playing. He gave me some very welcome news that the band has been trying to get in touch with me to see if they can use some of my pics. Sweet!
S did an awesome job putting on a huge spread of food. Her bf is Aussie so he guided her way through her first ever Aussie BBQ and let me tell you, the bread and salads she supplied were delicious! Really simple stuff like a cold rice & vege salad, a bean mix, greek salad, and everyone's favourite Potato Salad (which I didnt touch cause it had bacon). I brought along my vege sausages so I wouldn’t feel left out amongst the meat eaters and their filthy snags and I ended up sharing them with an English guy who had a bit too much to drink and kept proclaiming at the top of his lungs “Who ate my sausage?” to the crowd. Slightly embarrassing because I was sitting next to him at the time. S also thought it was time she initiated me to the art of grilling haloumi on the bbq. I’ve been curious about this ever since I read it on D’Jen’s blog not long ago – I think I’m love! It was sooo yummy. Definitely one for the books when we have a bbq next.
The only gripe I had was that I didn’t take out the camera… I left the SLR at home since they can be pretty monstrous at parties and people tend to freak out a bit when you point a great big ugly camera in their faces, but the only compact digi camera I have is about 5 years old and is an absolute brick. And only 2.1mp too… Quality! LOL. Today I should really get stuck into my own study and get some stuff done for college - only 4 weeks left! But I'll probably end up just reading The Devil Wear's Prada book that P gave me since I haven't been able to see the flick yet. I think I'll make some more of my fabulous Red Kidney Bean, Chickpea & cous cous patties again too. I had these last week for my lunches and they were just awesome with a bit of salad or on a wrap. It's back to counting points this week! Have a nice, relaxing Sunday folks :)
On Thursday night I had a photo shoot in the studio again. I've been dying to get these up, but they took a bit of work. I don’t know where I went wrong with the lights, but you can see in the photos that the yellow background isn’t quite uniform. Ah well, it’s all practice. I’ll nail it next time for sure. Also, my computer is slowly dying and I’m already on my 2nd video card which is pretty crap so I have no idea how my colour balance/editing is going. That sucks!
The shoot was a little cheeky and my friend T did quite well I think. Got some cool shots, despite the issues with the background. Check ‘em out:
Also so this morning was my WW Pink breakfast put on by my lovely WW Leader Julianne. I took a couple of photos, but for some unknown reason I didn’t use a flash. Wha? I don’t know what the heck I was thinking there. I think I’ll blame it on the late night last night and the hideously early start today. I’m stonkered! I need a nanna nap to keep me going! Glad I went to WW this week tho (last week we missed out due to some Islamic festival at our meeting hall) and I really needed to get back on track. I also scored that ‘Simply Swap’ Cookbook (great since I’m a vegetarian. No point buying a cookbook if I can’t use half the recipes!), a WW mag & some of those 9 grain All Day Breakie bars to try.
Oh! And weight wise, I'm still only 1.4kgs off a bookmark. I've been at the same weight for the past 3 weeks now, but that's okay because at least I'm not gaining! I haven't been as disciplined as I would like to be... Yesterday I had a food shoot for bakery stuffs which was just pure EVIL. Left the house without breakfast (stupido!) so I was ravenous by the time I got to the studio. One cream donught for breakfast- ugghhhh gross! I could feel the fat coating my insides from all the cream! It was supposed to be part of the shoot but got squashed on the way over LOL.
I just heard the news that Belinda Emmett (Rove’s missus) just died. Gosh, that is so sad! Normally I couldn’t care less about celebrities, but I really like Rove and thought their romance was a bit of a fairy tale. I thought she was better too! Poor Rove.
