Rant! And a new toy.

Guess where I’m typing this from? My couch! On my new laptop… Yay for me! 

 

If I’m lucky, I might just get to bed before 4am tonight – the late nights are really starting to catch up with me.  I find that I am falling asleep sitting at the computer!  The only thing good about being up so late is that I can listen to Passions while I ‘shop, heh.

 

I’m pretty freakin’ pissed though.  I’ve been working my ass off to get my stuff ready for my folio because we were told it all had to be finished off and today so it could be taken to the labs to get printed. I’ve been working to this time table so I’ve pushing hard to make sure all my photoshop work is done and dusted and to do this, I’ve had to temporarily neglect my assignments.  I think the folio is more important though, since this is what we will be showing people once I'm out in the 'real world'.

They told us today that next week, our last week ever, we will not have access to the darkrooms outside of college class times, and that a much needed (for me!) ilfrochrome printing session will be taken away on Monday so that we can have extra Photoshop classes.  I am PISSED.  I worked so had at home to get all my stuff done so that next week I could concentrate on the rest of my assignment work, only to find out that the darkroom times we were told we would have last-minute-panic-printing-access to weeks ago has been revoked - meaning I wont get everything done.  I wasted sooooo much time at college today using the college computers too – they are so incredibly ancient that it takes upwards of 5minutes just to open a .tif file.  No exaggeration – we timed it!!  They are in such an appealing state that I’m known as ‘Des’ because the “b” key on the keyboard doesn’t work… neither does the ALT key and a number of others. I mean, really!  Keyboards are so freakin’ cheap, there really is NO reason at all to have something so crappy.  Not just that, the CD ROM drive on my machine has been fucked for about 6 weeks now, so I can’t burn any of my stuff like we’re required to do at the end of class.  When I complained because I was in a hurry this afternoon, the tutor got all snotty and had a go at me, saying “Well, you either have a CD Rom drive or you don’t have a computer, take your pick.”  Fuck me!  It took all my effort to bite my tongue and not put my bitch face on.  I was so tired and agitated and so bloody frustrated that I was damn ready to get fuckin’ nasty in response. It doesn’t take much to replace a bummed CD Rom drive- Give me a screwdriver and a new drive and I could do it myself in 20 minutes!!  And what kind of place doesn't have contingency plans?? There are 12 machines and 12 students and NO back up machines! 

 

Fuckers.

 

Okay! That’s my vent for today.  I’m unbelivebly tired so I might go to bed.  I’ve already processed a bunch of films, photoshopped a couple of extra pages and got my new lappy all set up and ready to roll (except for email).  I love having a laptop… This thing is going to end up containing my whole life- my fiction, my photos, my music, my vids… I love that I finally have something portable.  It’s 2^nd hand so although the outside is a bit battered, the internals are just as good (if not better in some areas) than our clunky old desktop.  Gotta love that.   And it was free, which means that the money I was going to put towards a laptop can now go towards a new camera body and maybe some lenses… Mmmm... 5D  *Drool*

 

Oh, I’m trying out the card reader built into the side of my lappy and thought I would share a photo of my dirty whore of a cat lying on his back.  This is how he sleeps! I snapped this one a couple of days ago on the bf’s ancient old (but still damn good) IXUS.

Oh! And a MASSIVE congratulations to Nicky on her super duper totally awesomeness news... She kept us in suspense for a while, but it was worth the wait.  Can't wait to see the article!!!!
